Mangala Narlikar is an Indian mathematician who has a specialization in advanced mathematics and simple arithmetic. She worked as a lecturer at the University of Bombay in Pune and before that she also worked at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai.
She has also published several books and articles on mathematics and other related subjects both in English and Marathi language. Some of her popular writings are “An Easy Access to Basic Mathematics” and “A Cosmic Adventure”.

Born on 15 July 1946, Mangala Narlikar’s age is 74 years as of 2020. She was born and brought up in a middle-class Hindu family from Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. She did her schooling from a local school in Mumbai and after that enrolled herself at the University of Bombay from where she completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s of Arts degree in Mathematics and secured the first rank and won the Chancellor’s gold medal.
She also completed her Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the University of Bombay in the year 1981 after 17 years of her post-graduation. Mangala Narlikar started her career as a research student and associate after the completion of her graduation. She worked at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research as Research Associate in the years between 1964 and 1966.
After that, she worked as a lecturer at the University of Cambridge for two years, and then again she worked at the School of Mathematics of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. For some time she left the job and completed her doctorate in mathematics and after that, she continued her job at TIFR as a pool officer in the School of Mathematics.
She also worked as a professor of mathematics at different institutions like the University of Bombay, University of Pune, and Bhaskaracharya Pratishthan and taught different classes for several years. She also wrote some well-known books and scientific papers on mathematics, some of her known works are Theory of Sieved Integers, Hybrid Mean value Theorem of L-Functions, An Easy Access to Basic Mathematics, A Cosmic Adventure, and several other articles and books on related subjects.

In an interview, Mangala revealed that her field of interest is real and complex analysis, analytic geometry, number theory, algebra, and topology.
She has won the Vishwanath Parvati Gokhale Award in the year 2002 for her book Gargi Ajun Jeevant Aahe in the Marathi language.
